This natural control method focuses on juvenile snails in garden spaces. It is applied to moist soil and surfaces where snails are active. The nematodes become effective when snails pass over treated areas, including damp spots near the soil surface and around containers where they tend to hide.

Targeting Juvenile Snails In The Garden

Unlike products designed mainly for slugs, this treatment focuses on both soil and the surfaces that snails frequently travel across. Snails often rest on pots, plant stems, shaded walls and the lower parts of plants. Applying the treatment to these areas as well as the soil helps increase contact when snails are active in damp conditions.

When And How To Apply Snail Nematodes

Nematodes require moisture to move through the soil and reach pests. Apply during warm periods or after rainfall when snails are active. Watering the soil before and after treatment helps maintain the damp conditions needed. For best results, apply in the evening or on cloudy days to prevent the area from drying too quickly.

Please note: this is a live product with an expiry date of around two weeks and is non returnable. Use the entire pack before the expiry date.

How To Apply Snail Nematodes

For effective treatment, use the full pack.

  1. Empty the full contents of the packet into 4 litres of water and stir thoroughly to create a stock mixture. Once prepared, this solution must be used within 4 hours.
  2. Take 0.5 litres of the stock mixture and dilute it with 4.5 litres of water in another bucket, stirring while mixing.
  3. Transfer the 5 litre diluted solution into a watering can. One watering can covers approximately 5 square metres.
  4. Continue diluting the remaining stock mixture in the same way until it has all been applied. Afterwards, lightly water the treated area using a watering can or hose.

Guidance For Treating Soil And Surfaces

Apply using a watering can or a fine spray to cover soil and the surfaces that snails move across. A nematode applicator can also be used for controlled distribution. As snails often shelter on pots, stems, foliage or shaded structures, treating these lower areas can improve the chances of contact. Some species with thicker shells or those that climb higher may be less affected, so additional control methods can be helpful.

This treatment is safe to use around pets, children and wildlife including birds and pollinators. It can also be applied around edible plants without any waiting period before harvesting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do climbing snails get treated?

Snails that climb higher above the soil can be harder to reach. Concentrating treatment on soil and lower plant areas gives the best results.

Is the application different from slug treatments?

Yes. While slug treatments usually focus on the soil surface, snail treatments are also directed onto lower plant surfaces such as pots, stems and shaded areas where snails commonly rest.

When is the best time to apply?

Apply during warm weather or after rainfall when snails are most active close to the ground.

Does the soil need to stay moist?

Yes. Moist conditions allow the nematodes to move through the soil and reach their target.

Can it be applied with a watering can?

Yes. A watering can or fine spray is suitable for distributing the treatment across soil and surfaces where snails travel.

Can other control methods be used alongside this?

Yes. Combining treatment with barriers or snail traps may help manage snails that are difficult to reach.
