Flea and Flea Beetle Nematodes

Lawn Flea and Flea Beetle Nematodes offer a powerful solution for controlling both fleas and flea beetles, pests known for damaging lawns and plants. This Steinernema nematode mix covers up to 50 square metres.

Fleas and flea beetle pest control

Flea beetles: Adult flea beetles are small, ranging from 2-3mm, and come in black, blue, or green with a metallic sheen. They are known for their ability to jump off leaves when disturbed. The larvae, found in lawns or topsoil, are white with a brown head and measure about 2.5mm long.

Infestation indicators: Check for small holes in the leaves of brassicas and ornamental plants, often surrounded by pale brown scar tissue. Adult flea beetles cause damage by creating shallow pits and irregular holes in leaves.

Ideal conditions for application

For effective control, apply nematodes when the soil temperature is at least 12°C, avoiding extreme cold or heat. Apply in the evening, during overcast conditions, or when rain is expected to enhance nematode activity. Water plants within 30 minutes of application to wash the nematodes off the leaves and into the soil, where they can work against the pests. Keep the soil moist for three to four weeks to ensure maximum effectiveness.

For optimal results, apply two treatments over a 25 square metre area, with the second application recommended 5 to 7 days after the first. This approach ensures thorough coverage and effective control of emerging larvae.

Storage  and usage guidelines for nematodes

Store nematodes immediately after delivery in the refrigerator or at temperatures below 5°C. Use them before the expiry date on the package to ensure they remain effective. By adhering to these guidelines, you can effectively manage fleas and flea beetles, ensuring the health of your lawn and plants.
